…In that I am upset and angry to the point of feeling sick about things that are almost entirely not caused by me.

I am finding that it is neither an inferior nor superior upset/anger/sick than the sort that is entirely my fault. It is just as infuriating and sickening as it would be if I had broken the damn thing, or if I was three months late with the paperwork.

It is perhaps more angering and unsettling knowing that I am incapable of fixing it; there is nothing I can do to stabilize my life. My current security and success rests in the hands of others. But then, the hopeless, defeatist part of me is somewhat relieved that I don’t have to try.

Fundamentally different anger, and yet quantifiably equal.

And while all that is interesting, it has done little t help me vent. Please excuse the following.

Oh my fucking fuckingFUCK. I did nothing. It’s all broken and fucked up and I didn’t even do anything wrong, an now it’s gone for untold weeks until someonefinds time to freaking fix it.

And what the ever-loving FUCK am I supposed to do about this OTHER guy? The one whose anxiety and apprehension is literally threatening my education and success for the year. I may literally be kicked out o school because he hasn’t done his fucking paperwork. Why would you risk that? This is not your life to play around with. He said he could do it, and it would work out, and that’s just never been true before. And I’ve tried s hard to support and believe in him, because everyone else has given up and begun resenting him, and I was the last one he could talk to, and didn’t want to be the bitch who shut him out and FUCK is this how I’m going to be with boyfriends?? I try really hard not to think of my relationship with him in terms of how much he’s fucked me over but he is really fucking me over right now. And if I complain about it to them, they’ll be all unsympathetic and I told you so and jut try to convince me to start hating him like they do and I’m just trying to be a decent person here, and I think right now that means shutting the fuck up.

I can actually remember every time a person at a convention or trade show has touched me inappropriately. My first year at the Venus Fair in Berlin there was a man who shoved two of his fingers into my panty-covered vagina. It was really fast, like he was standing there one second…

After reading this story, I couldn’t think of a response and just sort of scrolled past it, but I kept thinking about it, and its just making me sick. I had to go back and find it and try to muddle out an opinion, and maybe that sounds stupid, because the obvious opinion to have is ‘that’s awful, society is awful’, but I’m an insecure, analytical person and I feel affected by this story in ways that have uncomfortable implications. I’ve read several stories like this in the last couple of weeks, and I’m having trouble coming to terms with the way they make me feel. My initial reactions is disgust, yes, but there’s so much else. I knowthat women don’t deserve to be treated this way, and as a woman, it scares me that this happens. But there are definitely parts of my brain wondering what this woman wears to conventions, and on the street. There’s a part of me that wonders what size she is how nice her facial features are, whether she wears perfume in public, if she has bedroom eyes. And I knowthat none of this should matter, but because I have never, ever been in these situations, there’s this doubtful part of me trying to justify the incidents. And I guess it just boils down to the act that I’m fat, and the men in these stories aren’t interested in me even when I do try to look nice for whatever reason, and the part of me that is self-conscious about it has a hard time ~~believing~~ accepting that dirty clothes and greasy hair is more attractive and enticing than me at my best. And I know that this isn’t the kind of attention I want, and maybe I should just be grateful, but there’s a part of me that wants to doubt the hardship of a ‘pretty girl’. And I know that that’s awful, and women are women, not sex toys, and that’s whats making me feel sick. This stupid, backwards part of my brain telling me to be jealous, because no one has ever followed me into a coffee shop, or approached me on a subway, or tried to get my number. Like, ever. And obviously there’s something wrong with me if dirty, closed-off, uninterested women get all this attention and I get none. And as I’m typing this I think I’m going to cry because I fully realize how messed up that is, and how messed up I am, and how I don’t know if that feeling will ever go away. That feeling that I’m not even worth harrassment, let alone positive attention, and how it has, and will continue to, colour my view of women’s rights issues and day-to-day life. And how tese feeling an opinions really have nothing to o with the women in the stories, they’re all to do with me and my insecurities and my inability to value myself on my own terms because I’m almost twenty and no one as ever fucking touched me, and that couldn’t be anything but my own fault. And this is written is a big scary block of text because I’m ashamed, and I don’t really want people to read it, even on this anonymous blog, but I had to put it somewhere because I’m upset, and I’m angry, and I can’t sleep, and I hate it, I hate this, I hate it.
